Glass positions on a T6

A typical Transporter conversion glazes some combination of:

• Front side window — the panel ahead of the sliding door, on either side. Usually the first window fitted.
• Rear quarter window — behind the sliding door, over the bed area on most layouts.
• Tailgate glass — for vans with the single lifting tailgate.
• Barn door glass — for vans with twin rear doors.

As with every van, each position is available as fixed (sealed, better insulated, nothing to leak) or opening (hinged on a catch for ventilation), and in privacy tint or lighter green tint.

Check your rear doors and wheelbase

Two things determine what fits a Transporter, and both catch people out.

Tailgate or barn doors. The T6 is sold with either a single lifting tailgate or twin barn doors, and they take entirely different glass. Walk round the back of the van and look before you order anything.

SWB or LWB. The Transporter comes in short and long wheelbase, and rear quarter glass differs between them. The long wheelbase has a longer rear panel and takes a correspondingly longer pane. Front side glass is generally common to both.

Will T5 glass fit a T6?

This is the most common question on the Transporter, and the answer needs care. The T6 is an evolution of the T5 rather than an all-new van, and while much carries over, you should not assume glass interchanges between generations. The T6.1 facelift changed further details again.

Don't buy on assumption. Confirm against your specific van, year and body configuration before anything gets cut.

Full disclosure: the Transporter is the one major camper base we don't currently stock aftermarket glass for. Unlike most vans we supply — where a Vivaro is a Trafic, a Boxer is a Ducato — the Transporter sits on a VW platform with no rebadged sibling in our range, so there's no crossover from existing stock.

We're working on it, because it's the van our customers ask for most.
