Glass positions on a T5

• Front side window — the panel ahead of the sliding door
• Rear quarter window — behind the sliding door, typically over the bed
• Tailgate glass — single lifting rear door

T5 or T5.1?

Worth knowing when you're sourcing parts: the T5 had a significant facelift in 2010, often called the T5.1. Most of the changes were to the front end and interior rather than the side panels, but when you're buying glass — or any body part — specify which you have. It removes any ambiguity.

Your V5C will confirm the year.

Tailgate or barn doors, SWB or LWB

Two configuration questions determine what fits.

Rear doors: tailgate vans and barn door vans take completely different glass. Look at the back of your van.

Wheelbase: the T5 comes in short and long wheelbase, and rear quarter glass differs between them.

Get both confirmed before you cut anything. On a van where a good conversion adds real value, a mis-cut panel is an expensive way to learn.

Fitting a T5 window

Transporter glass is bonded — glued into the aperture with polyurethane adhesive rather than held by a rubber seal. It's how VW glazes the window-van and Caravelle versions on the line, it's stronger and fully waterproof, and it gives the flush factory appearance that makes a conversion look right.

The process: mark and cut the aperture, dress and prime the bare edge against corrosion, apply an even bead of adhesive, set the glass square, and let it cure fully before driving. It's achievable at home if you're methodical, but on a T5 in particular many builders choose professional fitting — the van's value and the visibility of the result make it worth considering.

We don't currently stock T5 glass as standard. The Transporter sits on a VW-specific platform with no rebadged sibling in our range, so unlike most of our vans there's no crossover from existing stock.
