The Kangoo and the Mercedes Citan

The Kangoo is also sold, essentially unchanged, as the Mercedes Citan. Same van, same glass. If you're comparing prices between the two, you're comparing badges rather than vehicles — and the glass listed here fits either.

Realistic expectations for a Kangoo build

This is the smallest end of camper conversion, so it's worth being clear. You get a bed, somewhere to cook (usually a slide-out or tailgate arrangement), and storage. You don't get standing height, a bathroom, or room to spend a wet weekend indoors without going slightly mad.

What you do get is a vehicle that costs almost nothing to run, fits in a normal parking space, doesn't look remotely like a camper, and can be pressed into service as an ordinary van whenever you need it. For a lot of people that trade is exactly right — particularly as a first build.

Glazing decisions

With limited panel area, most Kangoo builds fit a single window each side at the front.

Opening glass is the more popular choice on a van this small. The interior volume is minimal, which means condensation from two people sleeping builds very quickly overnight — by morning a fully sealed Kangoo will be streaming. Being able to crack a window changes that completely.

Fixed glass insulates slightly better and is simpler to fit, and works well if you're pairing it with a roof vent.

Privacy tint is the obvious choice. A small van's advantage is that it goes unnoticed; dark glass keeps it that way.

Fitting

Bonded glazing with polyurethane adhesive: mark and cut the aperture, dress and prime the exposed edge against corrosion, bond, and cure fully before driving.

Small panes make this a genuinely manageable first glass fit — light enough to handle alone, and the panel is accessible. The flip side is that a small aperture leaves little margin for a wandering cut, so mark carefully.

Prime the cut edge properly. Small vans of this age are prone to corrosion and an unprimed edge won't stay clean for long.
