The Citan is a Renault Kangoo

Mercedes didn't design this van. It's a rebadged Renault Kangoo, built in the same factory on the same line, and the glass is interchangeable between the two.

That's useful in both directions. If you own a Citan and can't find parts or conversion advice, search for Kangoo instead — the community is much larger and everything transfers. And if you're shopping for a van to convert, compare prices between the two badges, because they're mechanically the same vehicle and the Mercedes badge sometimes carries a premium that buys you nothing structurally.

Micro camper builds

The Citan is a small van, and that shapes what a conversion looks like. This is a weekender — a bed, a small cooking setup, storage — rather than anything you'd live in. Done well, it's an excellent surf, festival or hillwalking van that costs almost nothing to run and parks anywhere.

For glazing, most people fit a single window each side at the front. Whether you choose fixed or opening depends on how you'll use it: opening if you'll sleep in it regularly and need airflow to manage condensation, fixed if it's more of a day van and you'd rather have the better insulation and the simpler, leak-free install.

In a space this small, condensation builds fast overnight. If in doubt, take the opening glass.

Privacy tint is the obvious choice — a small van parked in a residential street shouldn't advertise that there's a bed in the back.

Fitting

Bonded glazing with polyurethane adhesive. Mark and cut the aperture, dress and prime the exposed edge to prevent corrosion, bond, and allow to cure fully before driving.

The panes are small and light, making this a very manageable DIY fit. The trade-off is that a small aperture leaves less room for error — mark it out carefully and cut slowly.

Order before 3pm Monday to Thursday for next working day delivery to UK mainland addresses, in packaging built for vehicle glass, with immediate replacement of breakages.
