Glazing an iLoad conversion

Having both front and rear glass available means you can properly light an iLoad conversion, which not every van in this class allows. The usual layout is opening glass at the front on the nearside — ventilation over the kitchen area — with fixed glass opposite, then rear quarter glass on both sides to bring light over the bed.

The iLoad's rear quarter is a good size, and glazing it makes a real difference to how the back of the van feels. If you're only going to fit two windows, front nearside and rear nearside is often the better combination than one each side, because it lights the length of the van rather than just the middle.

Privacy tint throughout keeps the conversion discreet and cuts summer heat, which matters in a van with this much glass area once you've fitted all six panes.

The iLoad and i800

The van is sold as the iLoad in commercial form and the i800 as a people carrier, with the same body. If you're converting an i800 that already has factory glass in some positions, the panes here will match the apertures.

Also worth knowing: the same vehicle is sold as the H-1 in some markets, so if you're researching conversions online, widen your search to that name too — there's a reasonable international community around these vans.

Fitting

Bonded glazing with polyurethane adhesive, as per factory practice. Cut the aperture, dress and prime the cut edge against corrosion, apply adhesive, set the glass square and let it cure fully.

iLoad panels are a moderate size — comfortably manageable, though the rear quarters benefit from a second pair of hands. As always, mark out carefully and cut slowly; the cutting is the part you can't undo.
