Barn doors or tailgate — check before you order

The Custom is sold with either twin barn doors or a single lifting tailgate, and they take completely different glass. Barn door vans need a pair of panes; tailgate vans need one large single pane.

This is the most common ordering error we see on this model. Walk round the back of your van and look before you buy.

SWB or LWB?

Front side glass is common across both wheelbases. Rear side glass is not — the long wheelbase has a longer rear quarter panel and takes a longer pane. Your wheelbase is on the V5C; if you're unsure, send us the registration and we'll confirm.

Planning a Transit Custom camper

The standard Custom conversion glazes the nearside front panel with an opening window, because that's where the kitchen normally sits and you want steam and cooking smells to have somewhere to go. Fixed glass goes on the offside. Rear side glass is optional but transforms the feel over the bed area, and rear door glass — whether barn or tailgate — makes reversing far easier and the interior far lighter.

Choose privacy tint if you're building a camper. It cuts solar gain noticeably in summer, keeps your build out of sight when parked, and is what almost every conversion uses. Green tint is the choice for crew vans and day vans where you want light rather than seclusion.

A word on the low roof: the Custom's standard roof gives you sitting height, not standing. Most builders either accept that, fit a pop-top, or choose the high-roof variant. Your glazing plan doesn't change either way, but it's worth knowing before you commit to the van.

Fitting

All Custom glass is bonded with polyurethane adhesive — the same method Ford uses on the factory line. Mark and cut the aperture, dress and prime the raw edge to prevent corrosion, apply adhesive, set the glass square and allow to cure fully before driving.

The Custom's side panels carry clear pressed guidelines, which makes marking out much less nerve-wracking than on vans without them. The tailgate pane is large and heavy — have someone help you offer it up.

We supply bonding kits, primer and finishing trim alongside the glass. If you'd rather have it fitted professionally, our sister company Trade Windscreens does exactly that from their workshop in Carlisle.

Delivery

Order before 3pm Monday to Thursday and your glass ships for next working day delivery to UK mainland addresses. Everything travels in packaging built specifically for vehicle glazing, and if anything arrives damaged we send a replacement immediately rather than putting you through a claims process.
